Welcome To Green Oak Consulting Limited

Green Oak Consulting Ltd provides expert witness services in structural and civil engineering to Clients, Insurers and Solicitors.

The Company was set up in April 2011 by Malcolm Hollings BSc[Hons] CEng MICE FConsE, following his retirement as an Equity Director of Shepherd Gilmour LLP, a leading multi disciplinary Engineering Consultancy, established in 1959.

Malcolm has over 40 years experience in the structural and civil engineering industry. He graduated from Bristol University in 1972 with an honours degree in civil engineering. After spells in both the public and private sectors, he joined Shepherd Gilmour in 1982 until his retirement in March 2011.

During his 29 years with Shepherd Gilmour he was responsible for a whole range of building projects from small extensions, to refurbishment of historic buildings, to multimillion pound new build developments. One of his last projects before retirement was the Greater Manchester Police Force HQ Building, which won the 2012 British Council for Offices National Award for Best Corporate Workplace.

Project experience with Shepherd Gilmour

Green Oak Consulting Limited continues to work for Shepherd Gilmour as a Consultant.

After returning to Manchester from running the London Office in 2004, Malcolm also became responsible for agreeing appointments and warranties with Client Solicitors and for all matters relating to professional indemnity insurance for the Shepherd Gilmour Group of Companies. This gave him particular experience of dealing with potential claim situations and dispute resolution, which was a natural progression to providing forensic reports and giving expert opinion in litigation cases.

Malcolm continues to work for Shepherd Gilmour as a Consultant through Green Oak Consulting Ltd, providing advice on appointment documentation and dispute resolution. This gives him access to the wide range of facilities and experience that such an established Practice has to offer.

In addition to successfully defending many potential claim situations throughout his career, he has attended several mediations and provided expert opinion on a range of cases including a public inquiry for a proposed development, to disputes about retaining walls, industrial ground floor slabs, structural collapse, pre-acquisition surveys, roof design and defective conservatories.

It is Malcolm's wide range of experience that allows him to provide clear, objective expert analysis and advice in relation to structural and civil engineering disputes. Objectivity is the key to identifying the root cause of any problem and to helping settle disputes quickly and efficiently. Most of his business is generated through repeat appointments and recommendations which is a testament to his professionalism and achievements.
